Time for another addition of Meet the Team! This week, we would like to introduce you to one of our Travel Nurse Recruiters – Kayla Canan!
1. Tell us why you love being a Travel Nurse recruiter? What are the best parts about your job?
I love being a travel nurse recruiter simply because I get to help those who need it and get to build great relationships while doing so. Every nurse has their own reason for traveling and regardless of what that reason is I get to help! I would have to say that the best part of my job is creating the relationships with my nurses and living vicariously through them. I have always wanted to pick up and travel across the United States and although I haven’t been able to do that yet I get to see pictures and hear all about the crazy cool things they do while on an assignment. I really have made some great friendships with the majority of my nurses and it feels great knowing that they can trust me and I can trust them. After all we are a TEAM…right?
2. What is the worst job you have ever had?
The worst job I have ever had probably has to be when I worked as an Equity Representative for Merrill Lynch. Nothing at all against the company, great company, but talking to people and educating them on stock options given to them from their company was pretty tedious. More often than not they were under the impression they had a lot more money then they actually did which led them to want to kill me, the messenger. Talk about some fun convo’s!!
3. What is your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure would have to be McDonald’s hash browns. They are just so golden, crunchy, and delicious! MMMM. I make sure I leave my house an extra 5 minutes early so that I can swing by the drive through before work and grab 1…..ok or 2.
4. Favorite thing to do outside of work?
My favorite thing to do outside of work is take my pup for a bike ride. It’s funny because I say “I take her for a bike ride” but what I really mean is that SHE takes me for a ride. All I have to do is strap on a helmet, some durable sneakers, sit down and let her pull me. Bella (that’s her name) is half greyhound so not only does she have endurance but she also has some serious speed. I’m pretty certain that we break the speed limit but shhhh…doesn’t count if you’re on a bike right?
5. Favorite TV Show?
Modern Family – hands down one of the funniest sitcoms on TV. If you have never watched an episode I highly recommend you do!
6. Do you have any stupid human tricks?
Hmmmm….the only stupid human trick I can do is twirl a hula hoop around my neck. I haven’t done it in years but I’m pretty sure it’s just like riding a bike. I could become pro again with about 5 minutes of practice.
7. Tell us what you like best about working for PPR?
My favorite thing about PPR is the people. I have honestly never met a better group of people in my life. Everyone is so nice, encouraging, and friendly, we are like one big family. The first morning I started at PPR, I got to my desk and had over 30 handwritten cards welcoming me to the company, how cool!! I also love that my “cube neighbor” is my CEO. I think it speaks volumes about the leadership of this company and how humble everyone is. Between the people and the culture this company has going for it, there isn’t a day that goes by where I am not thankful for working for PPR, it truly is one of the best places to work for in America.
