13 weeks…what’s the deal with that?

13 weeks, 13 weeks, 13 weeks, that’s all we tend to hear in our industry.

Have you ever thought, why?  Why do our assignments have to be 13 weeks?

Back in the “infancy” of the travel industry, everyone latched on to the idea. It was a way to fit 4 assignments into one year and really just became the standard.  But “times they have a changed.”  13 weeks, while still the norm, is not your only option.  We are seeing 15, 17 and even 26 week assignments.

Why should you consider a longer assignment?

  • Instead of relocating up to 4-5 times a year, you would only have to move 2-3 times, less moving, less costs and less stress.
  • Sometimes with longer assignments, you can increase your pay rate.
  • Expanding your weeks could help lower housing costs because you are committing to a longer lease.
  • Lastly, job security!  Booking longer contracts could prevent you from seeking employment during peak or off times of the year.
